One Afghan injured as ISAF base rocketed

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – One Afghan civilian was wounded when two rockets detonated near the perimeter of the base here this morning.

The Afghan, who was lightly wounded by shrapnel, was taken to an ISAF medical facility here for evaluation and treatment. An ISAF explosives ordnance team destroyed two unlaunched rockets.

“This is another case of extremists hurting the people of Afghanistan,” said Maj. William Mitchell, U.S. Marine Corps, a spokesman for Regional Command East.  “The Taliban extremists continually hurt the Afghan people with their indiscriminate attacks.”

A villager provided information which alerted the Afghan National Police officers to the location of five rockets.  The ANP arrived there after three of the five rockets had already been launched but successfully disarmed the other two rockets.

The incident is under investigation.
