Task Force 1 Fury hosts shura in Heyderabad village

HELMAND PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Soldiers from ISAF’s Theater Task Force hosted a shura for elders from Heyderabad and Mirmandab villages recently.

The shura focused on issues of security development in the area.  The elders discussed Taliban activity, roles and concerns of local and provincial leadership, and the strength of the government of Afghanistan’s authority in the area.

The elders also covered the topic of developing and improving local infrastructure, specifically focusing on road building and maintenance.

The Theater Task Force is ISAF’s 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.  It is also known at Task Force 1 Fury.

Discussion also addressed Governor Asadullah Wafa’s, and the provincial government’s intent to establish a safe and secure environment, which would support the development of the local and provincial economy.

Lt. Col. Brian Mennes, TF 1 Fury commander, spoke to the elders about ISAF’s mission in the Helmand Province.  He also explained that TF 1 Fury is there to clear the area of Taliban, which gives the locals the opportunity to take personal responsibility for the security in their towns and villages.  Once security is established, development in the upper Gereshk Valley and the Kajaki Dam Project areas can progress, he said.
