British troops ready to respond to immediate threats

KANDAHAR AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – British troops from ISAF’s Regional Command South Reserve Battle Group now are ready to provide assistance anywhere in southern Afghanistan on short notice.

The reserves have been operating alongside Dutch soldiers in Uruzgan province this week, said British Army Lt. Col. Mike Smith, RC-South spokesman.

“This reserve is a recently acquired capability which can be used throughout the southern region.  We are now better placed to support task forces for either pre-planned surge operations or in response to more immediate threats or opportunities.”

The reserve battle group is used for short-term deployments throughout the southern region.  It normally operates under the command of the ISAF task force to which it is assigned.

The reserve battle group has already deployed to Helmand province.  It is currently supporting the Afghan National Security Forces and Dutch troops in Uruzgan.
