One ISAF servicemember killed near Pakistan border

BAGRAM, AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – One ISAF servicemember was killed and two ISAF servicemembers and two ISAF civilian members were wounded when they were ambushed by unknown assailants near Teri Mangel, Pakistan, after leaving a border meeting.

The wounded were medically evacuated to an ISAF treatment facility.  The meeting was held relative to the previous day’s border incidents.  These meetings are routinely held to enable dialogue among participants and in specific cases like this, to ease tensions, said ISAF officials. Officials from Pakistan, Afghanistan and ISAF attended the meeting.

The Government of Pakistan is investigating the incident.

The name and nationality of the deceased servicemember is being withheld until the next of kin have been notified.
