Van Loon praises security forces at final security meeting

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Major General Ton van Loon, commander of Regional Command-South, praised the cooperation among the members of the third Regional Security Committee meeting at the Afghan National Army’s 205th Hero Corp Headquarters.

“I want to take this opportunity to give my compliments to all the representatives of the ANSF on their efforts and progress made,” Van Loon said, attending his final security committee meeting before leaving command.

As an example, he said almost 4000 members have been recruited for the Afghan National Auxiliary Police in the past few months and trained for the southern region. The stated aim of the committee is to assess security issues within Regional Command-South.

Senior Afghan National Security Force representatives attending the meeting included Maj. Gen. Raoufi, commander of the Regional South Afghan National Army; Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Zazai, Southern Regional Chief of Police, and Brig. Gen. Saifulla of the Afghan Border Police.

“I welcome the new arrivals and want to say goodbye to Major General Van Loon and the Dutch contingent,” said General Raoufi. “The past few months we have worked together very hard; we will continue to do so in the future.”

Raoufi said he was pleased with the contribution that had been made by ISAF forces in both training and working together.
