PRT Farah holds relationship-building luncheon

FARAH, Afghanistan – A relationship-building luncheon for line ministers, provincial councillors, provincial development councillors and their International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) at Provisional Reconstruction Team (PRT) Farah took place Saturday at PRT Farah.

“To really open the lines of communication is the purpose of today’s luncheon,” said Cmdr. Frank Hughlett, PRT Farah commander. “Instead of talking to a voice on the end of the phone they’ve got a face.  They’ve got a person that they’ve shared a meal with. They will feel comfortable calling somebody that they’ve already met.”

Commander Hughlett paired staff members with a counterpart from the governor’s office. For example, Chief Petty Officer James Brown, a former teacher, was paired with Mr. Atiqullah, director of education. Gary Domian, U.S. Department of Agriculture representative, spent time getting to know Aslam Dana, Farah director of agriculture.  The counterparts will spend the next year focusing on issues in their fields and working together to provide solutions.

“I would like to have a good relationship, and I would like to come to the PRT to talk two times per week. I am a very active person,” Mr. Atiqullah said.

Mrs. Sadiqi said, “We are coming together today to meet each other and to learn how to work together.  The people are interested in meeting the PRT staff and talking to them.”

All invitees turned out for the event. Following introductory speeches the guests enjoyed a buffet of American and Afghan food.  They then spent an hour mingling and getting to know their counterparts.
