One Afghan killed and one wounded in Ghazni

FORWARD OPERATING BASE SALERNO, Afghanistan – One Afghan civilian was killed and one Afghan was wounded after armed criminal elements attacked two fuel trucks in separate incidents.

According to Afghan officials, the owner of one of the trucks was reportedly killed during an attack on an ISAF-contracted truck this morning near Ghazni.  The driver of the truck was not injured thanks to a passing Afghan National Police patrol that stopped to assist.  An ANP patrol stayed with the vehicle and driver even as the attackers fired a rocket propelled grenade towards their location.

In the second incident, an ISAF patrol came across an abandoned fuel truck that was leaking fuel as a result of bullet holes.  It was reported by Afghan officials that one man was wounded and taken to a Ghazni hospital after the attack.

An Afghan security patrol was dispatched in the region in response to the attacks.   The patrol detained at least eight people for questioning in vicinity of the attacks.

These incidents are currently under investigation by Afghan and ISAF authorities.
