ISAF continues its support for GoA in flood relief

KABUL, Afghanistan – Today, following the flooding of several areas across Afghanistan, ISAF forces have continued to support the Government of Afghanistan in its effort to help those affected by the waters.

Herat province has experienced damage to the main roads throughout the region.  ISAF helicopters are airlifting humanitarian relief items to the Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRT) affected.

In Regional Command – North PRTs Maymana, Masar-e-Sharif, Kunduz and Feyazabad are all standing by to offer assistance where required.  PRT Feyazabad has already received a request from the Governor of Badakshan to provide humanitarian aid to those affected by the flooding and the avalanche that hit the area yesterday.

Not only is ISAF providing humanitarian aid support, but ISAF has also provided aerial and engineering reconnaissance to enable the Government of Afghanistan to assess the extent of the flooding in 19 provinces.  The aerial reconnaissance has enableed the GoA to target aid to the locations that need it most.  Engineering reconnaissance is assessing the infrastructure damage to roads and bridges, allowing the repair of structural damage.
