ISAF EOD team provides valuable lessons to local farmers

HERAT, Afghanistan – Regional Command – West’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team and Operational Mentoring and Liasion Teams (OMLT) worked alongside the Afghan National Army (ANA) troops by helping to dispose of a large cache of weapons near Camp Stone, south of Herat.

The cache, composed of artillery and mortar shells, artillery charges, an RPG, and a 140 mm projectile, was neutralized near Camp Stone. An ANA patrol was taken to the cache by an Afghan civillian.  The ANA see this as a sign of the improving confidence, collaboration and communication between local people and the ANA.

Before the munitions were disposed of the EOD team was able to provide a lesson to the local population and to their ANA counterparts on the procedures to carry out should they find unexploded explosive ordnance (UXO).

During a short interview, Gen Ramman, a senior officer in Camp Zafar, underlined the trust that is building between the local farmers and the ANA.  He also congratulated the OMLTs on their continuing success in mentoring the ANA troops.
