ISAF provides more assistance after flooding

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – This week, in a joint operation with Afghan authorities, ISAF troops in Uruzgan Province delivered military assistance to villagers on the west bank of the Helmand River affected by last week’s flooding.

Hundreds of villagers in Uruzgan Province were affected by the

floods last week, particularly in the Deh Rawod District, near the Helmand border. ISAF troops stationed in this area and taking part in Operation Achilles evacuated hundreds of stranded Afghans and delivered humanitarian assistance.

This week’s operation consisted of airlifting much needed items such as blankets, food and plastic tarpaulins to the villagers who have chosen to stay in the area and are unable to secure much needed necessities.

“The villagers living on the west bank of the Helmand River welcomed the assistance that was provided. The operation was led by the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development and the Afghan National Security Forces, supported by ISAF, and is a tangible sign of effective governance,” stated Major Eric Jonkers, Task Force Uruzgan spokesperson.
