Afghan National Army 205th Corps holds graduation ceremony

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – A graduation ceremony was held at Camp Shir Zai this morning for 86 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers who successfully completed the ANA Team Leadership Course.

The Team Leadership Course is a required developmental course for ANA soldiers wanting to become non commissioned officers, such as Sergeants. The three week course places a great deal of emphasize on leadership development and principles.

Major General Rahmatullah Raufi, Commander, 205th Corps, was in attendance and addressed the new graduates during the ceremony, “I am very happy that you have all done well. It is important that you apply what you have learned to operations in the field and that you teach your fellow soldiers from the experiences you have gained.”

ISAF personnel provided guidance and support to the ANA instructors as part of the “train the trainer program”. This process affords the instructors the knowledge needed in order to train their soldiers to a high standard.

“Today’s graduation ceremony is a strong indication of the increasing strength of the ANA,” stated Major General Ton van Loon, Commander, ISAF Regional Command South.

“In order to have a strong Afghan army, you need to have well trained senior non commissioned officers to mentor and guide young soldiers. Today’s ceremony is especially significant due to the fact that senior Afghan Army instructors provided the training,” added Major General van Loon.
