Task Force Uruzgan expands presence near Helmand border

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Yesterday, as part of Operation Achilles, ISAF Dutch forces from Task Force Uruzgan entered a remote village 10 kilometers south of Deh Wood this week and were warmly greeted by local villagers. Due to the possibility of retribution from Taliban extremists, the village, regrettably, can’t be identified by name.

“For many, it was their first meeting with ISAF forces and we were encouraged by the warm reception our soldiers received,” said Major Eric Jonkers, spokesperson, ISAF Task Force Uruzgan.

“Through this initial meeting with village elders, we were able to assess their needs, including medical needs. We are planning on organizing a village medical outreach in the near future to help any way we can,” he added.

Operation Achilles is a combined multinational ISAF and Afghan National Security Forces effort to bring stability to Northern Helmand.  The operation was launched on 6 March.
