PRT Commander makes donation to orphanage

FARAH CITY, Afghanistan – The commander of PRT Farah, Commander Michael Horan, recently visited the Farah City orphanage to distribute clothes and toys to the boys and girls. The commander receives regular donations of humanitarian assistance from friends and family back home, in particular an organization called Angel Gifts. He then distributes the toys and clothing amongst the poorest children of Farah province.

“The children are very enthusiastic, gracious and thankful for what they get. There is not an item that they do not show great appreciation for receiving, whether it’s an off-coloured, wrong size hat or scarf, they’re very thankful. You know that it does make a difference,” says Cdr Horan.

Members of the PRT civil affairs team estimate that two-thirds of PRT personnel have made private donations for distribution to the people of Farah province. Construction is also underway for a $130,000 USD PRT-funded new orphanage in Farah City.
