Better security on the Ring Road

HERAT PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Last week, Afghan National Police (ANP) received a brand new police sub station on the Ring Road on the way from Meymaneh to Herat in the village of Arab Aqsay. The new sub station, built by ISAF forces working for the PRT in Meymaneh, will increase security for those traveling on the ring road and for the nearby villages.

The area has, for a long time, struggled with robberies and harassment of travelers on the road.

Deputy Commander of PRT Meymaneh, Lt Col Timo Hartikainen, was proud to open the station during the opening ceremony.

“We have given the police another tool in the fight against crime and it is now up to the police to use it to improve the security situation.

“PRT Meymaneh is a strong supporter of the Afghan National Police with the hope that one day they will not need the support of the PRT,” he said.

The police station was funded by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and cost approximately US$22,000.
