ISAF helps repatriate bodies to Pakistan

KABUL, Afghanistan – ISAF forces from Regional Command-East (RC-E) and Afghan National Border Police are providing help to the Government of Pakistan in the repatriation of the bodies of 10 Pakistani soldiers trapped in an avalanche, presumed to be dead, on the Afghan-Pakistan border March 1.

The Pakistani Government requested the help of the Afghan Government and ISAF March 7 to establish a small base camp approximately 1km inside the Afghanistan border.  This will allow the 30-man team easier access to recover the bodies. The Afghanistan and Pakistan members of the Joint Information Operations Center were key to facilitating the request.

“The ongoing positive work of the Tripartite Commission has helped allow for this cross-border cooperation, so that these men may be laid to rest in their own country,” said Col Tom Collins, ISAF Spokesperson.

The Government of Afghanistan and ISAF’s RC-E are working closely with the Pakistanis to return the lost soldiers to their homes for appropriate honors.
