ISAF detains Taliban extremists linked to key IED cell leader

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – International Security Assistance Force soldiers caught two insurgents linked to a high-profile Improvised Explosive Device (IED) cell leader earlier this week.

The suspects were observed emplacing an IED on the roadside near Kandahar Airfield and fled the scene when the ISAF Quick Reaction Force arrived. A chase ensued, and one insurgent managed to escape. The other two were detained for questioning.  One suspect was treated for minor injuries.

The suspects had in their possession weapons, detonation cords, primers, grenades, and electrical wire used to run remote detonators to IEDs, ISAF officials said.
