Two civilians killed in Garmsir

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Yesterday, during an engagement between ISAF forces and Taliban extremists in Garmsir, Helmand Province, two civilians were killed and four others received minor injuries, likely caused by ISAF misdirected mortar fire.

“ISAF provided immediate medical attention to the injured civilians and will continue to provide support in any way we can,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Rory Bruce, ISAF spokesperson in Helmand province. “We are deeply saddened by the news of the loss of innocent civilians during this engagement and our thoughts are with the bereaved families.”

A Shura, the outcome of which is not yet known, was held between village Elders and the ANP to discuss the incident.

The incident is presently being investigated by ISAF.
