ISAF troops and Regional Leaders confer at Jalalabad

JALALABAD, Afghanistan – ISAF troops and regional leaders converged at Jalalabad Airfield to discuss regional security and upcoming operational objectives on 24 Feb at 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment headquarters.

JALALABAD, Afghanistan – ISAF troops and regional leaders converged at Jalalabad Airfield to discuss regional security and upcoming operational objectives on 24 Feb at 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment headquarters.

Afghan National Army Brig. Gen. Zmarai, commander of 3rd Brigade, 201st ANA Corps, met with Army Col. John Nicholson, commander, Task Force Spartan, and Task Force Spartan battalion commanders serving in the northeast discussed future operations in the region.

The meeting follows the transfer of TF Spartan headquarters to Jalalabad. Col Nicholson handed over operational taskings in the southern and western portions of Regional Command-East to TF Fury on 21 Feb. TF Spartan retains responsibility for Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Nuristan provinces.

The group leaders also discussed areas of responsibility, border security, Afghan National Police efforts and training. Zmarai thanked the assembled American leaders for their efforts and pledged to continue close collaboration.

"We have been working together and it has brought happiness and peace in Afghanistan," Zmarai said. "It is my honor to have been working together."

Zmarai stressed the importance of the ANP to regional security.

"It is the job of the police to provide security," he said.
