ANA, ISAF checkpoint threatened

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Yesterday afternoon at approximately 5.15 p.m. ISAF forces and Afghan National Army were involved in an incident that resulted in the death of an Afghan civilian after he refused to stop at a checkpoint in Zabul province.

A vehicle sped at high speed through an ANA checkpoint near the site of Sunday’s helicopter crash and swerved toward some ANA soldiers. The ANA soldiers jumped out of the way and the vehicle continued further towards an ISAF unit securing the crash site.

ISAF troops gave hand signals and verbal warning in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The vehicle continued at a high speed towards an ISAF soldier. Disabling shots were fired at the vehicle by ISAF troops. The driver was killed and a passenger injured in the engagement.
