ISAF engages enemy firing point

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Today at approximately 1:30 p.m. ISAF troops were engaged by enemy rockets near Kajaki Dam, Helmand province. Close air support was requested and targeted the enemy.

The enemy firing point was positively identified close to a compound containing a number of buildings. One of these buildings is believed to be a mosque. As the enemy moved away from the compound they were engaged by ISAF forces. A successful precision air strike was conducted. The precision-guided munitions hit the target, completely destroying it, causing no damage to nearby structures.

“These extremists were using civilian buildings as a shield, putting innocent lives at risk.” said Lt. Col. Angela Billings, HQ ISAF spokesperson. “The good people of Afghanistan can rely on their government and ISAF to continually protect them.”
