Tragic incident between ISAF troops and Afghan civilian

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – This morning, ISAF troops were involved in a tragic incident resulting in the death of an Afghan civilian.

ISAF troops were conducting a routine patrol in Gereshk, Helmand province. Traffic had been stopped, but a vehicle continued to approach the roadblock at high speed. Despite hand signals, the vehicle failed to stop and warning shots were fired at the ground.

Unfortunately, the shots ricocheted and hit a local passer-by. The casualty was treated by an ISAF medic, but died at the scene.

“ISAF is deeply saddened by the loss of an innocent civilian today in Gereshk. Our thoughts are with the bereaved family of the victim. ISAF deeply regrets the loss of innocent life in any circumstance,” said Sqn Ldr Dave Marsh, Regional Command-South spokesman.
