Eight Afghans killed by suicide bomber

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Two Afghan National Policemen and six Afghan civilians were killed and five others were wounded today when a suicide bomber detonated outside an ISAF forward operating base in Salerno, Khowst Province.

The bomber attempted to enter the base at the pedestrian gate while wearing a vest filled with explosives. When he arrived at the search point he detonated the vest, killing himself, eight others, and wounding five, including one ANP. The wounded were treated at the scene before being taken to the Khowst Hospital.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the brave policemen who gave their lives in the defence of their nation’s freedom and the families of the innocent civilians struck down by this terrorist act,” said Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick, RC-E spokesman.
