New school opens in Nangarhar province

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – On Monday, the Jalalabad Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) attended the opening ceremony of a new school in the Dih Bala district, Nangarhar province.

The Nangarhar province sub-governor, Azizulla, the school’s headmaster, Mesry Khan Kelewal, the PRT’s commander, Lt. Col. David Naisbitt, and the PRT’s USAID representative, Brian Bacon, attended the event. Kashmir, an eight-year-old student who will attend the new school, was selected by Colonel Naisbitt to represent his schoolmates at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Following the ceremony, the local elders presented Colonel Naisbitt and Mr. Bacon with traditional Afghan hats.

Shortly after the event, an Afghan National Army (ANA) vehicle filled with winter items and school supplies arrived to delivered supplies to the sub-governor and headmaster.
