Local national injured

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Today, an ISAF convoy in Zabul province was involved in a tragic incident when a civilian vehicle behaving suspiciously failed to stop as it approached, despite clear warnings.

ISAF forces gave clear signals for the driver to stop, including the use of warning shots, however the vehicle refused to halt. ISAF forces eventually fired upon the vehicle, unfortunately wounding one local national.

ISAF deeply regrets the injury to civilians. The wounded person was brought to a local hospital immediately. It is unknown why the vehicle failed to stop when clear signals were given. An investigation is underway.

“We urge drivers to take great care when approaching ISAF convoys, paying particular attention to any signals or warnings given,” said Maj Dominic Whyte, ISAF spokesman.
