Turkish PRT continues Afghan support in Wardak during Eid-Al-Adha

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – On 3 January the Turkish Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) distributed 18 tons of meat to 4,500 needy families in the Maidan Shair, Nerkh, Saidabad and Jaghatu districts of Wardak province during the celebration of Eid.

The PRT set up commissions for each district, consisting of three members from the PRT and four members from each district. The local commissions included the district administrators, head of religious affairs, head of agricultural affairs and representatives from local shuras.

The commission facilitated all aspects of the delivery, from the purchase of the animals to the distribution of meat.

Hakan Abaci, Wardak PRT commander, participated in the distribution ceremony in Maidan Shair and expressed the pleasure of coming together with the people of Wardak on such a happy occasion for all Muslims.

“The assistance of Turkey to the brotherly nation of Afghanistan will continue in every area, and the people of Afghanistan should never feel alone and helpless,” said Abaci.

Fazıl Omar, head of the local committee, conveyed the people’s gratitude and pointed to a satisfaction in having the PRT in Wardak.

Omar also said the Eid program, together with previous assistance provided by the Wardak PRT in November 2006, made up the largest humanitarian distributions in Wardak province.

The Religious Foundation of Turkey, upon the request of the PRT, provided the financial contribution for this programme.
