ISAF commander condemns Spin Boldak suicide bombing

KABUL, Afghanistan – The following is a statement from Gen. Dan McNeill, Commander ISAF, condemning the Oct. 13 suicide bombing in the Spin Boldak district:

“On behalf of all ISAF troops and contributing nations, I wish to express our condemnation of this abominable violent act that happened in Spin Boldak yesterday.  We offer our sincere condolences to the families and friends of all those who have died in this tragic event.

Yet again, we see in such senseless acts that the victims have been largely civilians.  Such terrorist activities destroy innocent lives, but they do not deter ISAF soldiers in our commitment to create a better Afghanistan.

Taliban extremists do not offer a hopeful future for this country, but one of violence and death.  I assure you that ISAF remains steadfast in its support for the Government and the people of Afghanistan. We will continue to give our full support to this critical mission.”

Approximately 45 civilians and Afghan Border Police were attacked when a suicide bomber on a motorcycle denoted himself in the Spin Boldak district.

Nineteen of the injured were taken by helicopter to ISAF medical facilities in the region.
