Exercise "Exercise Cooperative Support 2002"

NATO and Partner Nations participate in Exercise Cooperative Support 2002

The Commander-in-Chief South Atlantic (CINCSOUTHLANT), Vice Admiral Américo da Silva Santos, Portuguese Navy, announced that NATO and Partner nations will join together to participate in exercise Cooperative Support 2002 (COSUP 02). The exercise will be conducted from 9 - 15 October 2002, in Tallinn, Estonia.

COSUP 02 will involve over one hundred officers from the following ten NATO nations: Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and from the following fifteen Partner nations: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia(1) and the Ukraine. France joins the exercise as part of the normal training relations that have been established with its allies. Jordan, a country belonging to the Mediterranean Dialogue, will also attend as an observer.

This is a scenario-driven, seminar style, joint logistics exercise. Its aim is to promote closer military co-operation and interoperability between NATO and Partner member nations. The exercise will focus on the logistic aspects of a Peace Support Operation (PSO) carried out by a joint multinational force or by a Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF). Following the CJTF concept, participants will have the opportunity to exchange NATO information on the Navy, Army, Air Force and Amphibious logistics aspects of a PSO.
