Addendum
- In paragraph 43 of my report to the Security Council of 14 March 1997
(S/1997/224), I indicated my intention to circulate an addendum to the
report that would contain the financial implications of increasing the
strength of the International Police Task Force of the United Nations
Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH) in view of the additional tasks
referred to in paragraphs 11 to 14 of the report.
- It is estimated that the costs associated with the additional
deployment of 186 civilian police in UNMIBH in connection with the
International Police Task Force's policing in Brcko for a period of 12
months would be approximately $13.9 million. It is also estimated that the
costs associated with the additional deployment of 120 Task Force monitors
in connection with the implementation of the human rights, training and
recruiting aspects of the mandate of the Force for a period of 12 months
would be approximately $9.5 million.
- Should the Security Council decide to deploy additional police
monitors, I would then seek the additional resources required from the
General Assembly. A breakdown of the estimated financial requirements is
provided by main category of expenditure, for information purposes, in the
annex to the present addendum.
