Assistance to Kyrgyzstan following earthquake

October 2008

On 9 October 2008, Kyrgyzstan sent to the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) a request for assistance following an eathquake.

According to the Government of Kyrgyzstan the southern part of the country was hit by a 8-magnitude earthquake on 5th October 2008.

In Nura village, Alai region (houses – 211, population – 941) 75 people had died, 150 people had been evacuated to receive medical care, 128 houses had been destroyed completely, 95 percent of the infrastructure had been destroyed. Destruction was concentrated in the mountains close to the border with China.
