An estimated 50,000 people had been left homeless after torrential rains and flooding devastated camps around Tindouf in Algeria on 10 and 11 February 06.

The Tindouf area hosted some 90,000 displaced persons living in five camps, three of which were practically destroyed with 50 percent of mud brick houses completely destroyed and 25 percent in an unstable condition.

The Government of Algeria requested emergency humanitarian assistance from UNHCR .

On 14 February, the EADRCC received a disaster assistance request from UNHCR - through UN-OCHA - for fixed wing strategic airlift to move 2.000 tents from Amman, Jordan, to Tindouf.
