Moldovan ministers hold talks at NATO HQ

On Wednesday, 10 September 2008, Mr. Andrei Stratan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and Mr. Vitalie Vrabie, Defence Minister of the Republic of Moldova visited NATO HQ.

Following a bilateral meeting with the Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the ministers addressed the North Atlantic Council.

The main subject of discussion was an evaluation of the Republic of Moldova’s Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP). Ministers stressed that the majority of goals set in IPAP for 2006-2008 have been achieved. They thanked Allies for practical and continuous assistance provided to a variety of projects associated with the IPAP, including in the defence planning and budgeting and training domains.

Allies complimented Moldova on its support to NATO’s and other international peace stabilization missions, including ISAF in Afghanistan. They urged Moldova to keep up and accelerate where possible the pace of reforms and reaffirmed full support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting also allowed for an exchange of views on regional security issues, including the Transdniestria question.
