Start of Intensified Dialogue with
Bosnia and Herzegovina

A first staff-level meeting was held on 9 September 2008 in NATO’s headquarters to open the Intensified Dialogue with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's Deputy Minister of Defence, Igor Crnadak, and NATO's Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Security Cooperation and Partnership, Robert F. Simmons Jr., discussed the Intensified Dialogue Process.

The talks focused on NATO's expectations of aspiring countries regarding foreign and domestic policy issues and on the Alliance’s current political agenda. Further expert-level meetings are envisaged for the coming period.

At the Bucharest Summit, NATO Heads of State and Government invited Bosnia and Herzegovina “to begin an Intensified Dialogue on the full range of politcal, military, financial, and security issues relating to their aspirations to membership, without prejudice to any eventual Alliance decision.”
