Over 450 Czech high-school students gathered for the Prague Student Summit, from 28 to 30 March, to take part in parallel Model NATO, Model EU and Model UN educational events.
Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright presided over the event.
The Model NATO was aimed at raising awareness and deepening knowledge of NATO and current security issues. Apart from the NATO focus, an emphasis was put on improving the student’s English-language, communication, negotiation and debating skills as well as critical thinking, teamwork and consensus building.
At the end of the conference, the Model NATO Council adopted a Final Communiqué, which was posted on the projects web site (nato.studentsummit.cz). This document along with additional programme reviews were published in a final report that will be distributed to permanent representations of the NATO member countries in Brussels and NATO's international secretariat, as well as various non-governmental and academic institutions.
This project was organized by the Association for International Affairs (AMO), a Czech non-governmental organization focusing on international relations, security affairs and foreign policy. It was co-sponsored by NATO's Public Diplomacy Division, the US Embassy in Prague, the Czech Ministry of Defense the Prague Security Studies Institute and Youth Atlantic Treaty Association.
