NATO welcomes US nomination
of future Commander ISAF
The NATO Secretary General and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe today welcomed the nomination by President Bush of General David D McKiernan as the next commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.
General McKiernan is currently Commanding General, United States Army Europe and Seventh Army, Heidelberg, Germany. General McKiernan will succeed the current COMISAF, General Dan McNeill, at a later date in 2008.
On the nomination, NATO Secretary General stated: "On behalf of the NATO Alliance, I am very grateful for the hard work and commitment of the current COMISAF, General Dan McNeill, on what is the Alliance's most important and challenging operation. I warmly welcome the nomination by President Bush and am looking forward to working with General McKiernan."
