Members of Parliament from the Arab Republic of Egypt visit NATO

On 17 January 2008 the NATO Public Diplomacy Division organised a high-level visit to NATO of members of the Egyptian Parliament. The delegation was headed by Mr. Amin Rady, Vice-President of the Defence and National Security Committee.

During the visit, the members of Parliament met with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and other high-level NATO officials in addition to Ambassador Manuel Tomás Fernandes Pereira, Permanent Representative of Portugal to the North Atlantic Council.

Portugal acts as the NATO Contact Point Embassy in Egypt. Topics discussed included NATO’s transformation, the current NATO agenda, NATO operations and military cooperation, as well as the enhanced Mediterranean Dialogue and the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative.
