The Prime Minister of Croatia visits NATO

The Prime Minister of Croatia, Ivo Sanader visited NATO Headquarters on Wednesday 16 January 2008.

Prime Minister Sanader met with the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and attended a meeting at the North Atlantic Council (NAC) in order to discuss Croatia’s progress report within the Membership Action Plan.

During the meeting, all Allies agreed that Croatia has made strong progress in implementing far-reaching political, economic and military reforms.

Allies also welcomed Croatia’s engagement  and constructive approach to regional issues, as well as Croatia’s significant contribution to NATO-led operations.

Allies stressed that decisions in the run up to the Bucharest Summit have not been taken yet and that sustained reform efforts will remain crucial in order to secure an invitation to join the Alliance.

The main focus for Croatia must now be on continuing reform efforts at the same pace and with the same level of commitment.
