On 13 November 2007 senior academics from the United Arab Emirates University met for discussions with NATO officials. The visit was organized by the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, in the context of public diplomacy activities for the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative.
The academics met with the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Mr. Jean-François Bureau, the NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Regional, Economic and Security Affairs from the Political Affairs and Security Policy Division, Ms. Aurélia Bouchez and other high-level NATO officials. They also met with an official from the German Delegation to NATO, which serves as the NATO Contact Point in the United Arab Emirates.
The topics discussed included: NATO transformation, NATO’s current operations, NATO relations with Russia and Ukraine, the Mediterranean Dialogue, the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) and military cooperation within the ICI.
