NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer met Swedish Prime Minister Frederik Reinfeldt, Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and Defence Minister Sten Tolgfors in Stockholm on 9 November.
Sweden is an indispensable Partner to NATO, currently contributing more forces than any other Partner country to NATO-led operations.
Their discussions focused primarily on three subjects. First, they assessed the situation in Afghanistan, where Sweden is playing an important role by leading a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT). Sweden is considering further possible contributions as well.
Second, they discussed the situation in the Balkans, and how to ensure continuing security and growing Euro-Atlantic integration in the region.
Finally, Mr. De Hoop Scheffer committed to continue to work within the Alliance to increase information sharing with key Partners such as Sweden.
Sweden has been a NATO Partner since 1994.
