NATO to strengthen protection
against cyber attacks

Concerns over recent cyber attacks against NATO member Estonia led to calls from NATO Defense Ministers on 14 June to boost efforts to protect information systems of critical importance to NATO against future attacks.

The issue was raised during a meeting of NATO Defence Ministers at the Alliance’s Headquarters in Brussels, said NATO Spokesman James Appathurai.

The 26 NATO countries agreed that urgent work was needed in wake of a major cyber attack on Estonia's electronic infrastructure in April 2007.

The aim is to enhance the ability to protect information systems against similar attacks said Mr. Appathurai.
