Some 80 experts from 49 countries discussed security concerns regarding food, agricultural and water infrastructure at a NATO vital resources seminar in Bucharest, Romania, 21-25 May.
The biannual Vital Resources Seminar is organized by the NATO Food and Agriculture Planning Committee.
It addresses critical issues such as the protection of key infrastructure in the food, water and agricultural sectors, related interdependencies and vulnerabilities.
“The vital resources seminar is responding to new security challenges, addressing a wide range of issues related to the protection of food, water and agricultural sectors,” said Carsten Fausboll, Head of NATO’s civil emergency planning section.
Participants specifically addressed the potential impact of the loss of food, water or agricultural infrastructure (and the resources needed to provide these services) on NATO and Partner countries.
The remit of the NATO Food and Agriculture Planning Committee is to exchange information and best practices in the food, agriculture and water sectors, in support of NATO’s civil and military needs.
The event was hosted in Bucharest at the invitation of the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture.
