NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer visited Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina on 16 March. This was his first visit to these two countries since they joined the Partnership for Peace Programme in December of last year.
In Podgorica, the Secretary General met with President Filip Vujanović and Prime Minister Željko Šturanović, as well as with Foreign Minister Milan Roćen, Defence Minister Boro Vučinić and with the Speaker of Parliament Ranko Krivokapic.
The main topic of discussion was NATO’s support to Montenegro’s Partnership for Peace Programme (PfP). The Secretary General said the Alliance is looking forward to receiving Montenegro’s PfP presentation document, which would set the foundations for Montenegro’s Individual Partnership Programme.
In Sarajevo, the Secretary General met with the members of the Tri-Presidency chaired by Mr. Nebojša Radmanović, with Prime Minister Nikola Spirić, as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs Sven Alkalaj and the Acting Minister of Defence Marina Pendes.
The Secretary General also signed an agreement on the Security of Information between Bosnia and Herzegovina and NATO.
This agreement is a standard procedure with all countries that join the Partnership for Peace Programme and provides for the safe exchange of information between PfP countries and NATO. It was signed by Minister of Security Tarik Sadovic on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
