Review of Moldova’s reform process

The Foreign and Defence Ministers of Moldova briefed NATO Ambassadors on the reform process in their country during a visit to NATO HQ, 31 January.

In 2006, Moldova presented its Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO, and the Ministers briefed on the implementation of key reforms.

Foreign Minister Andrei Stratan and Defence Minister Veleriu Plesca also outlined areas in which Moldova is seeking NATO’s assistance and exchanged views on the security situation in the region.

Praise for reforms

NATO Ambassadors praised the reforms implemented, particularly in the area of defence reform, and encouraged further efforts including in the political sphere, the judiciary and the fight against corruption.

The Ministers also met with the NATO Secretary General.

Moldova is the fifth NATO Partner country to have an Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) with NATO.

Developed on a two-year basis, such plans are designed to bring together all the various cooperation mechanisms through which a partner country interacts with the Alliance, sharpening the focus of activities to better support their domestic reform efforts.
