Alliance honours veterans of operations
On 29 November, at the beginning of the formal session of their Summit meeting, NATO Heads of State and Government paid tribute to veterans of NATO operations. The leaders rose in honour of veterans of all operational theatres, and observed a minute of silence for those wounded and those that paid the ultimate sacrifice. 26 veterans of NATO operations, one from each NATO member country, participated in the ceremony. “ On behalf of the Heads of State and Government around this table, all the people in this room, and indeed the citizens of NATO countries, I say to you – and through you to the other men and women in the armed forces – thank you,” NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer told the veterans. “Thank you for the work you are doing, and for the sacrifices you and your families have made, to help ensure our security.” |
