Secretary General discusses Riga Summit in Copenhagen News 2/11/2006 - NATO NATO Secretary General to visit Denmark Key links NATO Riga Summit The upcoming NATO Summit in Riga, the Alliance’s Afghanistan mission and NATO-EU relations were the focus of a visit by NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer to Copenhagen on 3 November. Mr. De Hoop Scheffer met with Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller. The visit is part of the continuing political preparations for the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government in Riga, Latvia, 28 and 29 November. Among other issues, the Secretary General discussed ideas for improving military and civil cooperation in operations, as well as coordination between various international organisations working in a specific area. During a joint press conference, both the Secretary General and Prime Minister said they expected the Riga Summit to take forward NATO’s transformation, relations with Partner countries, and strengthen the Alliance’s commitment to Afghanistan.
