The logo of the Summit meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government, which is to be held in the Latvian capital Riga on 28 and 29 November, was presented at a special ceremony at NATO HQ, accompanied by a jazz concert and photo exhibition.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer unveiled the logo together with the Latvian Defence Minister, Atis Slakteris, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic Latvia to NATO, Janis Eichmanis, on 22 May.

For several years, the Alliance has been adapting its capabilities, structures and partnerships -- to be better able to meet new challenges in new ways and new places. At Riga, our Heads of State and Government will take this adaptation process a decisive step further , ” the Secretary General said.

The unveiling was accompanied by a jazz performance by the Latvian National Armed Forces Staff Band, and the opening of a photographic exhibition “Riga Welcomes the NATO Summit.”

We are six months away from the Riga Summit, and a lot of work is ongoing to prepare our meeting,” said Mr. De Hoop Scheffer.

Summit meetings are held at important moments in NATO's history and aim to adapt Alliance policies to changing needs and circumstances.

The Riga Summit will be the 19th Summit meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government.

A dedicated section on the NATO Web site - www.nato.int/riga - will provide news, media and background information on the Summit and its agenda, from now until the Summit meeting.
