NATO and Moldova intensify cooperation
The North Atlantic Council on 19 May approved the first Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) with the Republic of Moldova. The IPAP enhances the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the Alliance through bringing all cooperation activities under one integrated programme, and through sharpening the focus of Alliance activities to better support Moldova’s domestic reform efforts. Reform objectives In the IPAP, Moldova has laid out its reform objectives in a variety of security-related fields, and NATO has addressed how its cooperation programmes will work to help Moldova achieve those reform objectives. Intensified political dialogue on relevant issues are an integral part of the IPAP process. The NATO-Moldova IPAP has been fully harmonised with the EU-Moldova European Neighbourhood Policy Action Plan to ensure complementarity and avoid overlap. Launched at the November 2002 NATO Prague Summit, IPAPs are open to countries that have the political will and ability to deepen their relationship with NATO. In addition to Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia also have IPAPs with the Alliance.
