Visit to NATO

The Georgian Foreign and Defence Ministers and the State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration visited NATO HQ on 13 April for discussions on NATO-Georgia cooperation and the country’s reform efforts.

Mr. Gela Bezhuashvili, Mr. Irakli Okruashvili and Mr. Giorgi Baramidze met with the Secretary General of NATO, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, and addressed the North Atlantic Council, NATO’s principal decision-making body.

The Council and the Ministers exchanged views on the progress of reforms in Georgia, and the implementation of Georgia’s Individual Partnership Action Plan with NATO.

They also discussed the security situation in the region and Georgia’s contribution to NATO-led operations.

In 2004, Georgia became the first NATO partner country to sign an Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) with NATO.

The visit follows a visit by Prime Minister Zurab Noghaideli in November 2005.

Georgia has been a partner country of NATO since 1994.
