NATO and Afghan engineers repair key road Background NATO in Afghanistan Italian military engineers from the NATO-led ISAF mission in Afghanistan, Afghan army engineers, and Kabul City Police are working together to rehabilitate ‘Desperado Road’, a vital juncture used by the Afghan population and NATO troops to reach Kabul city centre. The project began on 2 April and should be completed within two weeks. Repairs will involve roughly 3,500 cubic meters of gravel and ten special machines, which are being provided by the Italian engineers. The Afghan army engineers who are taking part in the project recently completed a specialized three-week training programme conducted by NATO’s Multination Engineer Group in Kabul .
