Troops from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) working with Afghan police have secured further illegal caches of weapons in Kabul.

Acting on intelligence tip-offs, a large of number of rockets, rocket-propelled grenades and ammunition were seized and safely destroyed in two dawn operations on 16 and 22 November.

Better intelligence

This is the latest in a series of operations made possible by the increasing cooperation of the Afghan people.

Afghan security forces and ISAF now regularly cooperate in intelligence-driven operations to recover and destroy illegal weapons and ammunition, which pose a threat to the stability and security of Afghanistan.

At present, over 9,000 NATO-led forces are assisting the Government of Afghanistan in maintaining security in Kabul, as well as the northern and western provinces.

Preparations continue to further expand NATO’s presence, to the South of the country, in Spring 2006.
