The Secretary General and President Parvanov discussed NATO’s operations and missions, as well as the defence reform process in Bulgaria. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Secretary General praised Bulgaria as a “faithful ally” and commended it on its participation in NATO-led operations. Mr. De Hoop Scheffer paid tribute to the country for its Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) this year. He said the OSCE had a very important role to play in monitoring the rerun of the Ukraine presidential election on 26 December. This was the second time that President Parvanov has visited NATO Headquarters this year, following a visit in February.
